National Debt Default and Resultant Dictatorship
The Spiraling Downward Effect Comes After Such a Default Occurs
What would have been once thought rationally unthinkable, 40, 50, or 60 years ago, is now, increasingly, happening to this much troubled nation. Economic, political, moral, and other forms of chaos enter into the mind of any keen observer. What, therefore, is occurring?
More and more, the American political/ruling class seems determined to not practice effective and needed statecraft; this is done by grossly avoiding appeals to genuine statesmanship that must, in turn, surely lead to a future dictatorship. The modern equivalent of the ancient "bread and circuses" exists in America with its Food Stamps Program covering more than 44,000,000 people, 1 in 7 inhabitants, which has doubled in the last four years and shows absolutely no sign of stopping. And, this is but one relatively small example of literally many Federal government programs that are proliferating, besides those other progams of most of the states.
Sports and other forms of mass entertainment, the contemporary circuses, do then so wildly proliferate. But, nonetheless, inherent and fundamental domestic optimism, by and large, yet reigns fairly supreme in this homeland.
Most of the American people, especially most political conservatives who believe in the (liberal Whig) thesis of American exceptionalism, do think that this nation is somehow or other fully exempt from the inexorable laws of history. This nation, as could be observed by objective commentators, intends to go the way of the Weimar Republic. And, it ought to be logically known what must, historically speaking, come after Weimar. Few, if any, should really doubt the truth. What is happening, it might be asked?
The USA is undergoing its fuller transition toward a social-democratic State, with a social- market economy, by seeking to further consolidate and rationalize the welfare-warfare State and its necessarily cognate military imperium. And yet, many millions of Americans still continue to extremely doubt this openly asseverated truth of present historical and political reality. Why so?
The ironic words of Hegel, so often repeated, ought to be here recalled regarding history: "The only thing we learn from History is that we learn nothing from History." The usually necessary consequences of economic, political, social, cultural, etc. decline and fall, decadence and degeneracy, seem ever to be ignored or unknown to the vast majority of the inhabitants of a country or an entire empire. But, the sacred Owl of Minerva takes wing at midnight.
This is true, for America today, as it was also true for the Weimar Republic, in the 1920s and very early 1930s, and, to cite a much larger historical example of a greater magnitude matching the USA, the eventual Fall of the Roman Empire. Of course, according to American conservatives, meaning the majority of them, this nation will surely recover and continue to be a great country, for many centuries to come. A recovery, pronounced with ideological certainty, is going to occur.
However, mere "recovery" tends, at best, to be normally ambiguous. It is granted that it will take, probably, two more generations before the (economic and other)decline of America will become undoubted to most people in this country. Ancient Rome itself, of course, neither grew nor fell in a single day. All political structures are, of course, tied to economic realities, especially when seen at the broader macro level of importance; this includes a nation's debt, regardless of, e. g., any expressed optimism by most of its people.
Nonetheless, the trend, unless substantially halted, is toward the expected default of the national debt, which is a double-edged sword; on the one hand, it could act as a truly needed wake up call to the American people; on the other hand, it would validly mark the point of no return as the country, more and more, goes toward its Weimarization, the creation of a European-style, social-democratic State; there will be the ruling/political class further consolidated in its power over and against the increasing masses, as the middle class now shrinks further and further toward its total impotence and, of course, consequent political marginalization.
The kind of country to be necessarily created will then become increasingly chaotic, as did, e. g., the Weimar Republic that had functionally, ended up calling forth a dictatorship, meaning, of course, Adolf Hitler.
The equivalent, in its basic essence, will happen here, though few will believe it, at the time, even when it would be happening because not only most conservatives believe in American exceptionalism, most Americans, in fact, also do. Political illusions cause related political delusions.
Although the basic default may help to wake up enough people, there is no guarantee, however, that the majority will really be able to either understand or comprehend the major econo-political and politico-cultural and socioeconomic transition to substantially occur in this much degraded nation.
Few people will then or now see the situation very clearly without having a profound comprehension of historical principles, classical political philosophy (i. e., Aristotle-St. Thomas Aquinas-Leo Strauss), classical Natural Law teachings, and the thinking of the traditionalist right.
America has, of course, abortion-on-demand, artificial contraception, rampant homosexuality, ever spreading pornography, liberalized divorce, progressively glorified fornication, etc. that, at a minimum, parallels ancient Rome. Most Americans, however, act as if either God, in effect, does not exist or the assumed Supreme Being, supposedly, blesses America for its ways and mores. But, moral chaos, eventually, leads to political chaos, as is demonstrated by a good reading of history.
Most people in this country, consequently, are due to so experience a form of enslavement currently beyond their range of comprehension. Dictatorships do not worry about upholding constitutional values or principles; revolutions, in addition, can and have historically occurred from the top down, not just supposedly from the bottom up, as it, too often, is so easily believed.
The dissolution of the former American political order will, nevertheless, be provoked by the aforementioned chaos, due to the ongoing and increasing economic crisis, as will be logically enflamed, thus, by the inability of the USA to fully honor its national indebtedness.
Weimarization will, by then, become basically institutionalized by the New Order that is to be established by the social-democratic regime dedicated to its collectivist ideals of power, injustice, oppression, corruption, statism, and its more ancient name of tyranny. The regularization of that tyranny will be seen in the dictatorship resulting from the fact that people cannot forever withstand anarchy and chaos, dissolution and uncertainty.
A frightened call for order, even a false political order, will occur, as it has historically always been the final case. The French Revolution had produced its Napoleon; Weimar gave Germany its Hitler. The Obamian Revolution will, as surely, call forth its to-be-expected Dictator. This will, therefore, manifestly mark the final empirical end of the absurd myth of American exceptionalism, for a nation that abandons God deserves its fate.
And, this is the way the world ends, this is the way the world ends, as T.S. Eliot had poetically put it, not with a bang but a whimper.
Sic Transit Gloria Mundi!
